A few months ago I stopped taking an acne treatment pill as it just was not agreeing with me. A week or so after I stopped I started to get acne break outs again which was awful. Since I've started using this natural formula my acne symptoms have reduced and my skin tone and condition has really improved. Ever since I was a teenager I would get bad breakouts come the summertime. I had tried just about every type of treatment out there from the one as seen on tv to the one in the drugstore. I had a small complaint when I ordered H-Acne because by the time my package arrived, a portion of the contents of the bottle had leaked out. However, when I told your customer care department, they quickly sent me a replacement. I was impressed.

As for the product itself, it did the job of taking away all the symptoms of my adult acne outbreak admirably.

What is Acne?

Acne is a very common condition and affects as many as 80% of all adolescents, even persisting into adult life. Pimples appear on the face, chest and back but teens mostly suffer from outbreaks on the forehead, nose and chin.

Acne is caused by the overproduction of sebum which is an oily substance that forms in glands just under the surface of the skin in the sebaceous glands. In normal times, this sebum flows out of hair follicles from the glands onto the skin to act as a natural skin moisturizer. But a blockage can develop in the pores made up of sebum, dead skin cells and bacteria. The blockage is only microscopic at first but, as it gets bigger, it develops into a blackhead or whitehead. And then you have acne. Most of the sebaceous glands are found on the face, neck and back. This is where acne appears.

In addition, pimples can form on the skin itself and these include:

• papules - which are small, red bumps that may be tender to the touch
• pustules - which are pus-filled pimples that are often red at the base
• nodules - which are large, painful lesions deep in the skin
• cysts - which are painful pus-filled lesions even deeper in the skin, and often responsible for the ice pick type of scarring

The last two, nodules and cysts, are the most severe type of acne. A bacteria invades the hair follicle. The damaged hair follicle then weakens and bursts open, releasing sebum, bacteria, skin cells, and white blood cells into surrounding tissues. New skin cells form to take the place of the damaged area. Scarring is the result when new skin cells are created to replace the damaged cells.

Acne is a serious condition causing considerable distress to sufferers, often with far reaching social consequences. Although food is not considered to be relevant, it is known that stress is a major contributing factor.

Some facts about acne:

• Acne sufferers are currently treated with long-term oral antibiotics or by proprietary creams which are applied to the infested area.
• The condition causes enormous distress to millions of people, leading a significant number to become reclusive and even attempt suicide.
• Acne sufferers tend to be between 13 and 24 years old, although significant numbers either carry on into their 30’s and 40’s or contract it in later life.
• It is thought that up to 80% of adolescents suffer acne to some degree.
• There is no significant evidence that food has an effect on acne.
• Acne is exacerbated by stress.
