I am a busy mother and tend to neglect my feet so the dryness just got worse and worse until my heels got cracks which were so painful. I have used many creams and lotions but they did not help. At the end of last summer I ordered your H-Cracked Heels because by then my heels were in a terrible state from wearing flip flops for months. I was really guilty of neglect.

What causes cracked heels?

Cracked heels are very common, painful and unattractive. When dry skin occurs on the feet, it is usually just a nuisance but if it becomes excessively dry, the skin can tear and crack so that painful fissures and cracked heels result. Dry feet need specialized care to prevent pain and to treat the symptoms.

Cracked Heels have the following symptoms:

• Peeling and flaking skin
• The skin feels tight or painful
• The skin turns yellow or brown in color, and may become inflamed due to itching and scratching
• The dry skin may become thick and hard, especially around the edges of the heels
• The feet may become painful while walking - this discomfort is increased when walking barefoot, in thin sole shoes or sandals
• If the cracks are deep they can bleed
• Dry and cracked skin is prone to bacteria and fungal infections which can cause serious problems

The heels of the feet are the areas most likely to develop painful fissures from a combination of the thick calluses around the heel and dry skin. Some of the reasons why these cracked heels occur are:

• The weather and exposure to extreme heat or cold
• Dry indoor heat
• Frequent hot baths, showers and swimming (in chlorinated pools) breaks down natural skin barriers so that moisture escapes
• Inactive sweat glands usually because of inherited genes
