What are planter warts? A common wart is known as a verruca vulgaris and a planter wart, simply occurs at the bottom of your feet. Planter warts are caused by a viral infection of the skin. The virus responsible for the cause of planter warts is the human papillomavirus (HPV), which has over 80 different strains. HPV affects an estimated 30 Million Americans, and this number increases daily.
Planter warts are easily picked up in gym showers and public swimming pools, where the HPV virus is passed through moist feet. Children often contract them by sharing shoes with friends of theirs. Planter warts may only surface months later, with HPV having an incubation time of anything from a week to a year. Normally a wart would surface within 3 months from first contracting the virus. A remedy or treatment is advised as soon as they are discovered.
