Acne or pimples, as they are more popularly known as,
affects teens the most in whom it is extremely common
and is a global phenomenon. Acne is also referred to
as plukes, spots and zits. When a person reaches puberty,
the body goes through a lot of hormonal changes and
acne is just one way these changes get manifested. Though
it mostly happens to teens, but acne pimples are noticed
in people in their later years as well.
The acne spots are mostly either whiteheads or blackheads
and are almost always seen on the face. But they may
also appear on the neck and the upper portion of the
body. Acne
forms due to an overproduction of oil from the sebaceous
glands. When this happens the hair follicles on the
skin become blocked and this blockage leads to the
pimples. Many teens wash their faces rigorously believing
that the acne pimples will go away – but this
doesn’t happen. Others pick the pimples and
this leads to catastrophe. Acne ends up leaving ugly
scars on the face that take a long time to heal.
