Advances in medical research have led to the discovery of newer ways to treat arthritis. Specialized drugs and medications are available, either over the counter or by prescription, that reduce the symptoms of arthritis quickly, provide fast relief and help gain normalcy in one’s life.
Arthritis medication can be broadly classified into the following groups.
Nonsteroidal Anti-inflammatory Drugs Or NSAIDs – These are widely prescribed by physicians around the world. They offer relief from the painful symptoms of almost every kind of arthritis.
Analgesics – These are administered to combat the most common symptom of arthritis such as pain and inflammation.
Biologic Response Modifiers – At one time, biologic agents were chiefly used in place of other conventional therapies in patients where the latter failed to produce results. However, the use of these agents has become more common in recent times.
Corticosteroids – Corticosteroids are simply steroids that are used in different dosages to reduce the inflammatory condition of the joints and organs.
Disease-modifying Ant Rheumatic Drugs Or DMARDs – These drugs, as the name itself suggests, modify the course of effects that are caused by the disease. It can dramatically reduce inflammatory conditions, curb the ravages of the disease and even, stop the progress of the disease.
Fibromyalgia Medications – This type of medication cannot be truly called as a form of arthritis medication. They seek to provide relief from muscle aches, pain and fatigue, which are symptoms that often accompany long-standing arthritis.
Osteoporosis Medications – This is another type of arthritis medication that can provide long lasting relief from arthritis.
Gout Medications – Apart from providing fast relief from the acute pain and severe inflammation due to arthritis, gout medications also help in reducing the uric acid level in the blood. This helps prevent recurrent attacks in the future.
Apart from synthetic drugs, there is also an array of natural choices to combat the disease. These alternatives comprise the natural side of arthritis medication. There have been cases where excellent results have been obtained. Some of these methods include…
• Mixing lemon juice and honey in warm water
• Baked and fried egg plants with added spices like cumin, coriander, turmeric and garlic.
• Other such homegrown remedies include taking one raw clove of garlic daily and drinking warm water with turmeric powder mixed with it.
