Also known as fever
blisters, cold sores are caused by the herpes simplex
virus or the HSV. The blisters or lesions are the most
common symptoms of the disease and they are normally
seen in the facial area – in the nose, lips, chin
and even in the fingers. These blisters appear red in
color and are slightly raised from the skin. They contain
a fluid inside and the lesions also become quite painful.
In fact, the pain appears in the affected region of
the body a couple of days prior to the blisters. In
a matured stage, the lesions sometimes break up, and
the fluid inside them comes out. The herpes simplex
blisters normally stay for 8 to 10 days, and then they
start to heal.
Cold
sores usually leave their mark on the body through
scars that remain for sometimes years.
The blisters of cold sores look much like the chicken
pox lesions. Actually this is the same virus that
causes both these diseases. A cold sore is extremely
contagious and spreads through direct contact with
an affected person.
