Eczema is the general
term used to refer to various kinds of skin disorders.
When there is scaling or thickness of the skin and it
itches, in the arms, elbows, knees and the face, the
condition is referred to as eczema. Symptoms of eczema
also include dryness, crusting and flaking of the skin,
oozing and bleeding, redness, and also cracking. However
the entire skin is never affected – the eczema
rashes are seen in patches, and the severity of them
differ greatly from one person to another.
There are 4 kinds of eczema. They are atopic eczema,
xerotic eczema
contact dermatitis, and seborrhoeic dermatitis. There
are a few other eczemas but they are not so common
- venous eczema, discoid eczema, dyshidrosis, dermatitis
herpetiformis, autoeczematization and neurodermatitis.
Since eczema itches a lot most people end up scratching
the rashes and this worsens the condition. Experts
say that those with a family history of skin problems
are more likely to get eczema. But the condition can
be controlled with lifestyle and dietary changes.
