Genital Herpes are a common sexually transmitted
disease caused by the herpes simplex virus: there
are many strains of this virus. The strain herpes
simplex one causes genital herpes while the strain
herpes simplex two causes cold sores. Unlike some
other sexually transmitted diseases, there is no cure
for genital herpes.
Herpes can appear on the penis, vagina and anal area
and can be caused by sexual intercourse, oral sex
and anal sex if one of the partners has the virus.
Unfortunately, people can spread herpes even though
they have no signs of an outbreak. Herpes are sore
blisters which appear on the genital area. Women can
suffer from internal herpes and, as these occur on
the cervix, will need a doctor to diagnose as they
are impossible to see. Men will notice the blisters
on their penis, scrotum and anal area. Herpes causes
many noticeable symptoms which molluscum does not.

Molluscum contagiosum
Molluscum is most common in young children but can occur in adults too. Although molluscum contagiosum is not a commonly spread sexually transmitted infection, men or women could have the molluscum infection on their genitals. Any contact with the area where the molluscum occurs could result in contraction of the disease. Molluscum is caused by the pox virus strain and is associated with chickenpox. A person will notice molluscum by the indents in the small blisters on their genitals or elsewhere. Molluscum is extremely contageous and can be spread through one part of the body to another. This skin condition causes no itching and no pain and it should clear up in about six to nine months, depending on the severity of the outbreak.
Herpes verses molluscum
If a man or woman contracts molluscum, it may be immediately mistaken for herpes or genital warts. This is where the differences matter. The onset of molluscum will have absolutely no warning. There is no known incubation period so the blisters will show up soon after infection. A person does not need to be carrying any viruses in their body for the molluscum to appear. It will just suddenly occur. The infected person will notice molluscum by how tiny the blisters are and the fact that they are all indented in the center. Molluscum, if scratched on the genitals or elsewhere, can spread like other rashes.
In the case of contacting genital herpes, symptoms
may not show for a while. These first symptoms will
be flu-like fever, body and muscle aches and the itching
of the genitals. Some people may experience abnormal
discharge from their genitals. There will be many
little blisters with genital herpes and these blisters
will cause a lot of pain. Painful urination is another
sign of herpes. Herpes will be at its worst on the
first outbreak and will clear up after a month or
so. It is best to speak to a doctor if any abnormal
blisters appear on the genitals as they can be spread
to others sexually in both cases and just by touch
in the case of molluscum on the genitals. Be sure
to practice safe sex by wearing condoms to protect
from both diseases.
