There are many names for skin tags and they are acrochordons,
fibroepithelial polyps and pedunculated papillomas.
Skin tags usually appear in those parts of the body
where the skin folds such as the chest, neck, below
the breast, arm pits and even in the groin region.
Skin
tags are basically a cancerous growth (but they
are not at all harmful) as a small tissue protrudes
from the skin as an expansion and it is flesh in color.
The growth consists of a fibrovascular core and there
may also be fat cells that are covered by the epidermis.
Usually they are 5 millimeters in size, but there can
be bigger tags as well.
Skin tags can appear in males and females of all
ages, but it is true that mostly they are seen in
the aged. Though no one is yet quite sure as to the
exact reasons why skin tags appear, but it is nevertheless
believed that age has something to do with it. Experts
also believe that obesity might be another cause of
skin tags.
