Since Venereal warts are sexually transmitted, prevention
also will naturally deal with having sex, or precisely
not having it. From a medical point of view, a venereal
wart cure can be an impossibility as it always
stays in the body either active or dormant, and so
it is better to follow the old proverb… 'prevention
is better than cure'. So emphasis has to be given
on prevention. Preventing the disease to stop its
spread should be the aim of every right thinking citizen
for the greater benefit of the society.
Venereal Warts and Safe Sex - is it Possible?
The term safe sex is more appropriate for HIV and other sexually transmitted diseases. Though venereal warts also spread through skin to skin contact with an affected person but using a condom may not always be adequate prevention. Using a condom may however prevent the virus from coming in contact with the susceptible skin areas. However since the virus can infect the scrotum and vulva, transmission can occur outside the condom-covered areas as well.
Venereal warts prevention is very important because on an average 2 out of 3 people who has sex with an infected person will develop the warts. So under the circumstances the best prevention from venereal warts is to avoid having sex with an infected person. Having just a single partner can also prevent you from getting the disease. But if you suspect that you are showing the symptoms, then you must go to a doctor immediately. You should also notify all sexual partners, if you have more than one, that they also run the risk of having venereal warts and must also visit a doctor. Venereal warts can also be prevented by washing the genitals carefully, particularly after sex.
Warts Cannot be Cured - so Should I Refrain
From Having Sex Forever?
Yes while it is true that venereal warts cannot be cured but that does not mean that once you have it, your sexual life is gone for good. Though it cannot be cured, but the conditions can be treated and spread of the warts can be controlled. But you must at least refrain from any kind of sexual activity till the time at least the cauliflower-like fleshy growths are completely eradicated. So if you or your partner is infected, wait for a while before they completely go before indulging.
I had Venereal Warts Before - so am I Prevented
From Having it Again?
The answer is 'No'. The virus that causes it cannot
be completely cured ever. And so you always run the
risk of getting it again. Once the warts have been
treated and they are gone, the virus again become
dormant until one day again becoming active. There
is nothing to stop this. But this does not mean that
you are guaranteed to have it again sometime in the
future. It is just that the risk element always remains.
So once you get it again, you need to refrain from
sex to prevent the spread once more.
What if I Cannot Prevent Venereal Warts?
Though the warts are not fatal in themselves, but inability to prevent the spread can have serious consequences. In such cases the warts will continue to spread and appear in more places. There is even a risk of cancer of the cervix, vulva, penis or anus.
