Thrush is a term people use to describe a yeast infection
in the mouth. As in all cases of yeast infections
thrush occurs when the yeast bacteria become too many
and the body cannot fight them off. Yeast
infection in the mouth can be very common in young
children and seniors. Those whom have weakened immune
systems due to immune deficiency viruses such as AIDS
or HIV are more prone to having a yeast infection
grow in the mouth.
The body's immune system at that point will have
a hard time fighting off anything including yeast
which occurs naturally in the body. Not only is thrush
caused by a weak immune system, having a yeast infection
in the mouth may also be a symptom someone has contracted
HIV.
Stressed out?
Buy stress ball do yoga, stress can upset the balance
of yeast bacteria in the mouth and cause oral thrush
to appear on the tongue and in the throat. People
who wear dentures can also get thrush. If a person
is having surgery or chemo therapy for cancer drugs
which lower the immune systems guard can also allow
the yeast bacteria in the mouth to increase drastically.
Aids as well will lower the immune system. The immune
system protects the body from becoming ill and keeps
bacteria levels low as they need to be, although yeast
bacteria are always in the body this doesn't mean
they always will stay at a low manageable level.
Medicines can cause oral thrush
It may seem odd that a medicine which is supposed to help the body can actually give a person an oral yeast infection. Although the label of side effects of different medications will not mention anything like yeast infections of the mouth they are a possibility. Women who take birth control may actually get a thrush yeast infection because the immune system is being changed so that the woman does not become impregnated. Those who do not maintain control of their diabetes may be at risk for an oral yeast infection as well.
Anytime the body is not at its peak whether a baby
has an oral yeast infection because they are so young
the immune system is still in development. Someone
who is middle aged and has HIV, AIDS or is going through
cancer treatment, or even just on the pill can get
them as well. Lastly those who are much older and
their immune system is slowing down to old age may
notice they too are not safe from yeast in the mouth.
Conclusion
So if taking any pills antibiotics or going through
chemo remember to ask a doctor about the risk of oral
thrush. Yeast infections in the mouth are not the
most pleasant place to have one, many people would
probably rather have them anywhere but in the mouth.
Those using illegal steroids watch out because not
only will the immune system start to die down the
liver and heart but yeast will get its chance to multiply.
If a baby has a mouth thrush infection fro a long
period of time or has them frequently this may be
cause to see a doctor. Yeast can occur in anyone taking
medications for long period of time, especially those
meds which slow the immune system down.
