You can forget about expensive de-tox treatments at the Spa when you follow these inexpensive ways to give yourself a healing treatment.
Start with lemons
When you wake up in the morning, rise and shine and drink a glass of water with a slice of lemon or some added pure lemon juice. This rehydrates your body after a long night’s sleep while supporting the kidneys and the digestive system. If you can drink more of the same during the day or add fresh lemon to your cup of black tea, all the better. A glass of warm water with lemon before bed will help the body cleanse whilst at rest.
Lemon is not only a vitamin C rich citrus fruit and an immune system booster, it also acts as a blood purifier and improves the body’s ability to get rid of toxins. It is a tonic to the liver and stimulates it to fulfill its daily digestive and cleansing functions.
Next on the list is dry skin brushing
Detoxification is performed by a number of organs, glands and transportation systems, including the skin, gut, kidneys, liver, lungs, lymphatic system and mucous membranes. This dry brushing technique helps with the detoxification of the skin. It stimulates all those organs of detoxification because it provides a gentle internal massage.
To dry brush, use a soft natural fiber brush with a long handle so that you are able to reach all areas of your body. One with a removable head with a strap for your hand is a good choice. A thorough dry skin brushing takes about 15 minutes but any time spent will benefit. Use long sweeping strokes starting from the bottom of your feet upwards; from the hands towards the shoulders; and on the torso in an upward direction to help drain the lymph back to your heart.
The benefits of dry brushing are numerous:
- Removes cellulite
- Stimulates the hormone and oil-producing glands
- Cleanses the lymphatic system
- Removes dead skin layers, tones the muscles and improves circulation
- Stimulates skin renewal that is super soft
- Strengthens the immune system and the function of the nervous system
- Helps digestion
Follow with a shower and massage the skin with pure plant oils.
During your day, you should try and escape to the outdoors.
We all know it is not natural to sit at a desk in front of a computer screen under fluorescent lights all day. We need to have time in natural surroundings to be soothed and revitalized. So visit a garden, a park or a stretch of water as often as you can. You will enjoy time to relax and just think. Another form of de-tox.
And at the same time, you can get your fix of sunlight
The media frenzy about covering up and blocking out the sun has meant that many people are getting no sunlight at all and there is now a serious vitamin D deficiency in many populations. The darker your skin, the more sunlight you need to replenish your vitamin D stocks. Spending 10 to 20 minutes every day in direct sunlight is the perfect way to boost your vitamin D and serotonin supply.
Having a warm to hot bath
At the end of your long day, you can complete your detoxification program by relaxing and unwinding in a warm to hot bath depending on your preference. Hot water draws toxins out of the body to the skin’s surface, and while the water cools it pulls toxins from the skin. Epsom salts augment this detoxification by causing you to sweat, while other salts – all highly alkaline and cleansing – include sea salt, baking soda, clay and Dead Sea salts.
Here is a basic and natural salt soak bath formula:
- 1 cup sea salts
- 2 cups baking soda
- 1 cup Epsom salts
- 1-2 tablespoons glycerine per bath
Combine the sea salts, baking soda and Epsom salts in a bowl and stir to blend. Pour quarter cup into the bath while filling with water. Add the glycerine to keep your skin from drying out plus essential oils of choice. You can store indefinitely in a glass jar with a screw top. Relaxing music and burning candles will complete the process.
These are wonderful ways to boost your health and vitality mostly without leaving your home and without spending a fortune!
