Little beautiful girl chooses shoes at a store. We all know that there are many lifestyle changes that we could and should be making but perhaps they lose their impact with repetition. So instead, we are sharing some more unusual suggestions.

1. Go shoe shopping!

Take stock of your shoes and decide whether they actually protect your joints and soft tissues. Flat shoes with little or no support could lead to dropped arches and leave your knees and ankles vulnerable to strain. Shoes should be robust enough to absorb shock instead of your knees having to do that work. Look for supportive styles and designs as a healthy alternative. We tell you more about foot care in our earlier post. Of course, going barefoot whenever you can is a bonus tip, allowing your feet to breathe and stretch out. If weather permits, walk on the grass, the sandy beach or paddle in natural water for 10 to 15 minutes at least and as often as you can. There is a method - place your heel down first, followed by the mid foot before spreading out the toes as much as possible and finally moving off using the big toe.

2. Listen to the birdsong!

Stop and listen as you might be surprised at how beautiful it can sound. It can also be a wakeup call to check up on your hearing. Hearing loss is on the increase, making it more important than ever to take care of your ears and your hearing. Hearing loss can creep up so slowly that you just may not realize that you are affected. In fact you could be the last person to know as it is often the case that friends, co-workers or family members spot the problem before you do. While lots of different causes lead to these changes, we can halt the progression through diet and exercise.

6. Exercise in the great outdoors!

If you can get out into the outdoors and take at least a 30 minute walk every day, you will reduce stress, boost your immunity and help to fight over colds, flu and other viruses. If you can include some hills in your walking, this will provide a much more thorough work out than the treadmill in the gym and help to raise your heart rate. There is a snippet of good news in that if you are working in an office environment all day and can just make your way to a local park or green area for an absolute minimum of 5 minutes every lunch break, you will reap the benefits.

7. Eat at the table!

Many families have sadly got out of the habit of sharing a meal together at the dining room or kitchen table. The benefits are numerous.
