I came across this poster on one of the social media sites and thought it warranted a post so that those who are interested in the three branches of this miracle trio tree could find out more about lemon, ginger and garlic too.

Lemon

What could be simpler than the lemon?

  • Add freshly squeezed lemon juice to a glass of water, or your cup of tea, daily to help maintain your body’s internal “climate” at a pH that supports healthy bacteria instead of the viruses and harmful bacteria which thrive in more acidic environments.  At the same time, the bitter taste of lemon helps the pumping motion in the bowels to spring into action for improved and regular bowel movements – always a good idea at the start of a new day!
  • If you can drink more of the same during the day or add fresh lemon to your cup of black tea, even better. Then at night, end your day with a glass of warm water with lemon before bed to help the body cleanse while you sleep.  Part of cleansing is to detox that very hard working organ, the liver.  Include plenty of lemons (or grapefruit) in your diet to help to cleanse the liver while preventing toxins from spreading to other parts of the body.
  • Everyone knows about lemon and vitamin C – which together with flavonoids work to prevent infection. In addition, lemons contain citric acid, B-complex vitamins, calcium, copper, iron, magnesium, phosphorus, potassium and fiber. The vitamin C found in lemons also helps to neutralize those free radicals that have been linked to aging and most types of disease.
  • In addition, vitamin C helps to boost the immune system and assists in the production of collagen which fights wrinkles by keeping the skin firm. This incredible vitamin helps the body absorb calcium and iron and has also been shown to reduce acne flare-ups

Lemons are cancer fighting too because of the presence of 22 anti-cancer compounds (including limonene) which studies have shown slows or halts the growth of cancer tumors in animals while flavonol glycosides prevents cell division in cancer cells.

Ginger

When dried, ginger is popular among bakers for traditional ginger cookies, ginger breads and fruitcakes. Always available in the fresh produce aisle of your local store, ginger can be crushed first to tenderize the fibers, then ground and pushed through a sieve for a fiery and aromatic taste and smell.

  • Ginger is a panacea for nausea so especially useful in times of morning sickness or when motion sickness strikes. It is also good for winter colds and flu to dry up the sniffles and reduce fever.
  • Ginger is well known for its anti-inflammatory properties as well as being a powerful natural painkiller and heartburn remedy. Add a slice or two of fresh ginger to boiling water to make a strong tea.
  • Finally, ginger could help you get relief from migraines (if you are a sufferer) due to its ability to stop prostaglandins from causing pain and inflammation in blood vessels.  Prostaglandins are like hormones in that they act as chemical messengers, but do not move to other sites, and work right within the cells where they are synthesized.

Garlic

  • Garlic is another potent cancer fighter and an excellent source of vitamin B6 (which combats fatigue and supports the nervous system). Garlic has been associated with a reduced risk of prostate cancer and has shown protective benefits against colon cancer.
  • Garlic has antibacterial, antiviral, anti-fungal, antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. In addition, studies have shown that eating garlic regularly reduces the risk of esophageal, stomach and colon cancer.
  • Garlic is rich in Vitamin C, Vitamin B6, selenium and manganese. The vitamin C helps protect LDL cholesterol from oxidation. The vitamin B6 helps prevent heart disease.  The selenium, as well as helping prevent heart disease, also provides protection against cancer and heavy metal toxicity.

It is recommended that you try to consume a half to one clove of garlic daily to gain maximum health benefits.

And you know what is especially great about these three is that they are all inexpensive to buy; they are always available; and they have a good shelf life too. You will always find all 3 in my home.
