What are Plantar Warts?
Health Articles > Warts > Plantar Warts
Plantar warts are those warts or verrucas that usually appear on the soles of the feet. Plantar is the medical term for the sole of your feet. Plantar warts are similar to warts that occur on the hands but take on a different appearance when they are pushed into the skin's surface by the weight of the body walking or standing on them.
All warts are caused by a virus and all warts, including plantar warts, are infectious. Plantar warts can be known as plantar warts or verrucas. They can be particularly stubborn and hard to get rid of once they have taken a firm hold. So treating them sooner than later is recommended.
The symptoms of plantar warts are:
- The appearance of an area of rough skin with a dry crusty surface. Small black dots are visible deep inside – these are dried up capillary blood vessels.
- Pain when pressure is applied to the plantar warts particularly when standing or walking.
- Plantar warts become flattened and painful from the pressure of the weight of the body. You can compare it to walking on a small stone.
If you are in doubt as to whether you or your child has a plantar wart, try squeezing it between your fingers in a pinching motion. If it is painful, then you can be positive that you are dealing with a plantar wart.
You can help to prevent the spread of plantar warts by taking these precautions:
- Avoid sharing any towels, shoes, socks or other personal items with others.
- Wear flip flops or sandals in locker rooms, public showers and around swimming pools.
- Be wary of using communal exercise mats or yoga mats.
- Keep home showers and bathroom floors clean and disinfected.
Children are more at risk of developing plantar and other warts because as one grows older, the immune system matures and becomes better prepared for these viruses. Remember that it is so much easier to treat plantar warts when they are small and newly formed.
Homeopathic Ingredients for Plantar Warts
Plantar warts, often found on the soles of the feet, can be stubborn and painful. Homeopathy offers a natural approach to wart treatment, with several key ingredients commonly used to address plantar warts effectively:
Most Common Homeopathic Ingredients for Plantar Warts
-
Thuja Occidentalis

-
Antimonium Crudum
Traditionally used for hard, calloused warts on the feet, Antimonium Crudum helps soften the skin and supports the natural healing process. This remedy is especially suitable for plantar warts that are thick and tender.
-
Nitricum Acidum
This ingredient is selected for warts that are painful and tend to have hard, cracked skin around them. It addresses discomfort and supports skin regeneration.
-
Dulcamara
