Athlete's foot also known as tinea pedis is basically a fungal
infection of the skin that happens amid the toes of
the foot, toenails and fingernails and the soles. Since
the infection is primarily seen in the foot, it is referred
to as athlete's foot. Tinea pedis is the fungus that
causes the problem, and in most cases it usually affects
younger people though there can be exceptions to this.
Also interestingly, it has been seed that
athlete’s
foot is seldom seen in women. The fungus that causes
athlete’s foot is found in warm and moist places
such as locker rooms, showers, gyms, swimming pools
and other such places.
Athlete's foot again is of 3 types. They are –
chronic interdigital athlete’s foot, chronic
scaly athlete’s foot (moccasin type) and acute
vesicular athlete’s foot. Symptoms of the athlete's
foot disease normally stay for about 10 days. However
the fungal infection may remain dormant within the
body to cause problems in the future as well.
