There are many living
organisms that live off other animals including humans
and the head lice (also known as Pediculus humanus capitis)
is one of them. Head lice in humans are found in the
scalp hair – they are small insects that make
us their hosts and suck the blood from the skin. They
stick to the hair using their six tiny claws. The main
problem with
head
lice is that sometime it comes with no symptoms
at all, not even itching.
There is a common misconception that head lice happen
when there is a lack in hygiene. But this is not true.
Head lice spreads when there is a direct head to head
contact and this is highly contagious as well. Head
lice can also spread when two people use the same
towel, comb, hats and share the same bed. While the
lifecycle of head lice is small, but the insects do
lay eggs in the head and so there is rapid multiplication.
Thus it becomes difficult to eradicate head lice unless
the situation is challenged immediately.
